This ARTS Email E-News release is to provide information we received from Bonnie Abramson & Robert Kamuf, USDA Youth Advisors.

Please click "Forward" to forward this message and the attached PDF file to the reps in your part of the tree The goal is to get this information to ALL the dancers who are part of this tree within 15 days.

Here is the message from Bonnie Abramson & Robert Kamuf:

Hello Everyone.  Happy New Year.

We apologize in advance for any duplicate copies you get of this message, but we hope you will make every effort to pass this reminder along to square dancers in your area, particularly any youth dancers.

The United Square Dancers of America, the national square dancers organization, has a $1000 college scholarship available for a youth square dancer somewhere in America.  The Founders' Memorial Youth Fund Scholarship is presented each year to a deserving high school senior or college freshman who has shown their dedication to the promotion and perpetuation of the total square dance movement, including square dance, round dance, contra and clogging.

Application deadline for this merit-based scholarship is February 1st.  The recipient of the scholarship will be announced in June at the USDA's Annual Board of Directors meeting held in conjunction with the National Square Dance Convention. (Go Louisville!!)

To download a copy of the scholarship application, go to www.usda.org/trifold/ISy0403.pdf

Each application must be signed by the President of the USDA member affiliate from the applicant's geographic area.  To find out the USDA organization in your area, please refer to the list found at www.usda.org/affilwps.htm. Applicants will also need a letter of nomination from their USDA organization representative.

Applicants will also need to write a short essay on the topic "the impact square dancing has had on my life" to submit with their application

If you would like to see a showcase of our past USDA Founders Memorial Scholarship Winners, visit www.usda.org/scholarship recipients.htm

Even more important, if you would like to help the USDA continue this fine tradition of supporting our youth, please consider making a donation to the USDA Founders Memorial Youth Scholarship Fund. A donation form can be found at www.usda.org/Youth Scholarship Donation Form.pdf

Scholarship applications need to be mailed to the following address:  USDA Founders Memorial Scholarship c/o 3039 Bridgeford Drive, Sacramento, California  95833-1150

For more information, visit the USDA website at www.usda.org, or contact the Youth Advisory Committee via e-mail at usda.youth.advisor@usda..org

Thank you in advance for sharing this with dancers in your area.
