2016 Caller / Cuer Hall of Fame

It is with great pleasure that Cindy and I, as immediate past presidents, present the 2016 Caller/Cuer Hall of Fame recipient.

As it is difficult to mask the identity of this year's recipient, please hold any applause until I have finished with this resume.

Truly a couple from an early age, having grown up across the street from each other - from high school on, in North Saint Louis, Florissant, MO. He threw her sweet 16 birthday party.

He went to an all-boys Catholic School, She to a tech school. He is an Eagle Scout, graduating high school in 1967. They were married December 20, 1969. They started out in a three room apartment in south St. Louis. He attended electronics school in Lexington Kentucky and served our country in the Marines from 1969 - 1971. Raising 3 children, devoted members of their Church, active as Scout leaders, he Working as a Union Sheet metal worker, She as an office manager and a talented seamstress, they still found time to take Square Dance lessons- graduating in 1982, with the Denim Squares.

They were the much needed 10th couple from the Denim Squares to form a group to start Round Dance Lessons with Ollie and Donna Loehr. They have never looked back! She started as the teaching partner for Ollie, when Donna was no longer able to dance. Within a few years they were a Round Dance teaching couple. They attribute the Neil Sedaka song - Calendar Girl - choreographed as a Jive round dance as the reason they stuck with Round Dancing.

They are Members of Roundalab, Missouri Round Dance Association, St Louis Area Round Dance Council, St Louis Metro Square and Round Dance Association (also known as the Missouri Federation's St. Louis District). They have held numerous leadership positions with these organizations, along with their local Square dance clubs over the years. They were chair couple of the 2008 St. Louis Jamboree. They have been featured round dance leaders at the 2006 and 2012 Missouri State Square Dance Festival, along with many other festivals, including the South West District in 2005 and 2008. They have attended, and cued at, many of the recent Missouri State Festivals. They have cued at the National Square Dance Conventions, and look forward to supporting the 67th Nationals in Kansas City in 2018. They attend other club dances and festivals around the state in support of the Square and Round Dance activities. They enjoy teaching and cuing for the St Louis area Square and Round dance clubs, including the River City Rounds, which they started in 2014. To spread the allure of round dancing, they have taught adult education classes at the Meramec Community College, with several of those students joining our activity.

Now our guidelines for this award state that this award is to be given to one person per year. But both members of this couple are accomplished round dance cuers and teachers in their own right, They have each been cuing, teaching and choreographing round dances for over 25 years. They have been a couple for a lifetime. They are known by the square and round dance community as The Tevlins.

It is our pleasure to present the 2016 Caller/Cuer hall of Fame to Bob & Gerry Tevlin, as a couple.
