Rubelle Shields
 May 15, 1924 ~ March 14, 2022

Rubelle Edna Agnes Oberdick Shields died peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2022.

Born at home on May 15, 1924, to Otmar Edward and Verna Emma (Beumer) Oberdick in Matson, Missouri, Rubelle was raised on the family farm. She served as a Marine in World War ll, stationed in Washington, DC. It was during the war that she met the love of her life, her husband of almost 77 years, Richard (Dick) Francis Shields. They were married July 12, 1945. Together they raised four children: Richard Bruce, Renee Gale, Rochelle Jan, and Robin Jon. Rubelle worked for over 25 years at Saint Joseph Hospital. Rubelle’s grandchildren remember their adventures with her on camping trips, the blankets she crocheted for them, the Christmas ornaments she crafted, her meatloaf sandwiches, cookies, tomato cake, scones (with the raisins cut in half), and her famous Bruce pie. When Dick and Rubelle retired, they spent many years as winter Texans, and traveled the country in their travel trailer. Rubelle’s strength, grace, love, and wisdom have left a legacy that is imprinted on the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Rubelle is survived by her husband, Dick, her children: Bruce Shields (Nancy), Rochelle Hord (Terry), Rob Shields (Jo), and Dave Drake. She is also survived by her special nephews and nieces: Tom Watson, Lynn Roverud, Kevin Oberdick, Marsha Petri, and Susie Myers. Rubelle is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Julia Dumenigo (Jayson), Megan Ziegler (Todd), Mark Helling (Stephanie), Sarah Hord, Daniel Linton (Heather), Kevin Hord (Courtney), Tiffany Kubernat (Rick), Anna Shields (Kara), Michael Shields (Lee), Nicholas Shields (Alyce), and Benjamin Shields (fiancée Claire). Rubelle is also survived by her 25 great-grandchildren: Alexandra, Paige, and Hannah Dumenigo, Mason Ziegler, Makenzie, Bethany, and Sebastian Helling, Owen and Augustus Gantner, Chloe, Audrey, and Morgan Linton, Jayden Powers, Evan Hord, Braedon and Mya Bella Roland, Peter, Faryn, and Dafydd Shields, Henry, Elliott, Brendan, and Miriam Shields, and Charlie and Evelyn Shields.

Rubelle is preceded in death by her daughter, Renee Shields, and her brother, Otmar (Bud) Oberdick.
